Jackie (Jack) Ray Hughes, age 69, of the Murl Community in Monticello, KY passed away on Oct. 23, 2022. He was born Dec. 1, 1952 in Somerset, KY, to Haskell and Edna (Harris) Hughes. He graduated in 1970 from Wayne County High School. Jack went on to attend Eastern Kentucky University and received his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture and a minor in Business. Jack was a long-time tobacco and tomato farmer along with having black angus beef cattle. He loved being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He gave his life to Christ on September 14, 1980, baptized in the river, and was a member of Old Charity Baptist Church. He was married to Cornelia (Kurtz) for 14 years which resulted in two children, Angela and Travis. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Roger Lee Hughes (3 days old) and Danny Hughes, Sr. He is survived by two children, Angela (Carlos) Sanguino and Travis Hughes; two grandchildren, Trevor Hughes-Smith and Victoria Sanguino; sister-in-law, Betty (Thurman) Hughes, and three nephews, Danny (Carolyn) Hughes, Steven (Ann Margaret) Hughes, and Jerry Hughes.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Old Charity Baptist Church off of Hwy 1546 and Alley-Hughes Rd, where the funeral will take place at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Old Charity Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 358 Murl Rd, Monticello, KY 42633. Arrangements made by Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home.
