Irene Dunagan was born August 9, 1928, and departed this life Monday, March 2, 2026, reaching the age of 97 years. She was the daughter of the late George and Nona Louise (Chaney) McCalister.

She married Harold Lafayette Dunagan on December 21, 1948, and two children were born to this union.

She is survived by: one son, Gary Dunagan (Joyce); one daughter, Gayla Longsworth (Denny); two grandchildren, Joshua Catron (Shannon) and Jared Dunagan (Ashley); and four great grandchildren, Weston Dunagan, Tanner Catron, Alyssa Dunagan, and Elisha Dunagan. She is also survived by:  two brothers, Jack McCalister and Gerald McCalister; and one sister, Judy Slavey; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, George and Nona McCalister, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Harold Dunagan; two brothers, Paul McCalister and Clifford McCalister; and two sisters, Dorothy Bullock and Orma Dean Page.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 6, 2026, between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
