Howard "Ray" Ledbetter, age 73, of Monticello, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday July 22, 2006 after having a heart attack.
Ray Ledbetter, as he was known by all, was born March 19, 1933, the son of Wallace Cordell Ledbetter and Minnie Lee Walker Ledbetter. His father preceded him in death while his mother still survives.
Ray Ledbetter served in the U.S. Navy from May 1948 to May 1952. His service was during the Korean Conflict aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Pierce in the China Sea where he manned an Anti Aircraft Gun. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. Upon discharged from the U.S. Navy, Ray Ledbetter served in the National Guard in Monticello, Kentucky.
Ray Ledbetter attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky. He received his degree in business.
He was the owner/operator of Lebetter's Sale & Service Furniture Store in Monticello until his retirement in 1998.
Ray Ledbetter is survived by his children, Kenneth Ledbetter of Monticello, KY., Cindy Lynch of Indianapolis, IN., Linda Nilson of Dayton, OH., Steve Ledbetter of Myrtle Beach, SC., and Bruce Ledbetter of Berea, KY. His grandchildren include Christopher Ray, Barry Wayne (deceased), Adrienne Nicole, Stephanie Lynn, Johnathon Richard, Melissa Victoria, Mark Edward, Travis Ryan, and Lange Cordell. His great-grandchildren include Briceton Wayne, Connor Ray, Christopher John, Kylin Aikia, Olivia Jae, Mia Nicole, and Kaylee Lynn.
Ray Ledbetter is also survived by his brothers and sister; Larry Jones Ledbetter of Lexington, KY., Wally Rodney Ledbetter of Somerset, KY., and his sister Sharon Lavonne Frost of Monticello, KY. His brother Sherman Lee Ledbetter of Bullhead City, AZ also preceded him in death.
Along with a multitude of family and friends who loved him dearly.
Visitation: Monday, July 24th after 5:30 pm
Funeral Service: Tuesday, July 25th at 1 pm
Interment: Elk Spring Cemetery
