Homer Ray Corder Jr. "Sonny" was born September 2, 1952 and departed this life Monday, April 20, 2026, reaching the age of 73. He was the son of the late Homer Ray Corder Sr. and Nancy (Gehring) Corder.
He married Brenda Stringer on March 3, 1972 and to this union two children were born.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Corder; one son, Bradley Corder (Myra); one daughter Cara Corder (Clifton Dobbs); and three grandchildren, Rylan Matthews, Camryn Dobbs, and Hunter Corder. He is also survived by two brothers, Eddie Corder (Kathy), and Robert Corder; one sister, Linda Slaven (Leonard); along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
Homer was a 1970 graduate of Wayne County High School. He worked two years for Wayne Auto Parts before being drafted to the Army. After returning home he returned back to Wayne Auto Parts for a total of forty-seven years.
Homer enjoyed fellowship, and spending time with his family and friends. He loved being outdoors and in his garage. He was a deacon and faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Homer was passionate about sharing his faith with others such as having bible study at Bronston Sunrise Children's Home. Homer was always willing to help others in need and was a very knowledgeable person. Homer was a U.S. Army Veteran serving as an MP. He was stationed at Seneca Army Depot Romulus, NY and served his country proudly.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 24, 2026, between 5pm-8pm and Saturday, April 25, 2026 between 8 am - 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by our local DAV Chapter 105.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, or Gideon Memorial Bibles.
