Hobart Milton Roberts was born June 13, 1924 and departed this life Monday, July 26, 2010 reaching the age of 86. He was the son of the late Hobart Roberts and Lela (Brown) Roberts Cross.
He was united in marriage to Doris Cooper and to this union 2 children were born.
He is survived by: 1 son, Howard Wallace Roberts of Glenview, IL, 1 daughter, Wanda Darwin of Abingdon, MD, 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by: 1 sister, Mary Lou Crabtree; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, Hobart and Lela, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Doris Roberts; 1 brother, Joe Roberts; and 1 sister, June Sawyer.
He served his country faithfully during World War II where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He also served as Monticello Mayor and County Court Clerk.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, relative and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 4 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. The body of Mr. Roberts will lie in state at the First Baptist Church from 9 – 11 am. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, 2010 at 11 am at the First Baptist Church with Bro. Chad Fugitt officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Elk Spring Cemetery.
