Doss

Henry Lee Doss was born November 20, 1953, and departed this life April 19, 2021, reaching the age of 67 years. He was the son of the late John Henry and Myrtle (Tucker) Doss.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1977 and served until 1987 when he was honorably discharged. During his time in the Air Force, he completed his AIT training and studied courses to become a military chef. He earned an award for Tactical Air Command Services Airman of the Quarter and the Commendation Medal for Outstanding Achievement while assigned to the Tactical Fighter Weapons Center Range Group at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
He was stationed at several Air Force bases including; Moody AFB, Georgia, Kunsan AFB, South Korea, Lowry AFB, Colorado, Eglin AFB, FL., and Hurlbert Field AFB, FL.
Henry worked many jobs in the cooking industry. He also worked for Adanta and was a deputy jailer.
He was a member of the Quarter Back club, coached in the little league Special Olympics in Kentucky and Georgia. A volunteer bus driver for the Wayne County Wrestling team, coached little league football, baseball, softball, was an umpire and he really enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by one daughter, Marcy Sullivan; one son, Justan Hansen; six grandchildren, Travis, Lindsey and Whitley Sullivan, Kiersten Scroggin, Garrett, and Christian Hansen; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Grayson Sullivan. He is also survived by one brother, Jerry Doss; two sisters, Faye Abbott and Nancy Lowe; along with a host of family and friends who mourns his passing.
In addition to his parents, John and Myrtle Doss, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hailey Sullivan; brothers, Buddy and Carl Ray Doss; sisters, Irene Adkins and Shirley Sexton; and one niece, Amanda Doss.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 22, 2021, between 5 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by our local DAV Chapter 105.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation and upon recommendations from the Governor's Office for Funeral Homes, there will be some restrictions for service attendance. You are asked to please wear a mask or facial covering and observe the social distancing guidelines. No communal food or drinks are allowed at this time.
