Glee Josephine "Josie" Guffey Abbott passed away Saturday night August 14, 2021 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky., with her great nephew Brad Clardy (or as she affectionately called "Lil Bud), by her side holding her hand. Josie was born in Clinton County, Ky. on June 11, 1927 to the late parents William & Pauline (Leverage) Guffey.

Josie was saved early in life & though she had lived the past 13 years in Bowling Green, Ky with her niece Pam (or as she had affectionately called Sugarbabe) & her husband David, she kept her membership at Elk Spring Baptist Church until her death, where she was an active member for many years.  After graduating Monticello High School, she attended Lyndsey Wilson College & taught school for 4 years.

Josie met & married her late husband James O. Abbott on April 29,1948 & together they opened Monticello Paint & Supply for 20 plus years. Josie enjoyed bowling & often reminisced of the time she won the Kentucky Senior State Championship in 2006.

Those who also proceeded her in death were brothers John Guffey, Bill Guffey, & sister Corina Guffey. She is survived by sister Sheila Hardison, many nieces/great nieces, nephews/great nephews & in laws.

Josie enjoyed being with friends & family, & those she loved dearly, she did so unconditionally & selflessly. She will be missed by many but is in her Heavenly Home now, where we all will meet again someday.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 between 1 pm – 2 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 2 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
