Gladys Mae Sparks of Monticello, age 96,died Monday, November 12 2012 in Lake Cumberland Hospital. Born September 22, 1916 in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Charles Franklin and Grace Lucille (Hogue) George. She retired from General Dynamics and became a Monticello resident in 1978; becoming a member of the Meadowcreek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thurman Sparks, one sister Betty Wheeler, three brothers Lee, Charles and Robert George.

She is survived by one son, Walter Eugene Welton of McClellanville, SC; two granddaughters, Heide-Marie Welton and Jacqueline Welton Skinner, two great grandchildren, Wardlaw Edwin Skinner and Michaela Marlies Skinner, all of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by one brother, Marvin George of Visalia, CA and three sisters, Mary Kay Rexroat of Okmulgee, OK; Doris Westfall of San Diego, CA and Annetta Ruth Buckner of Henryetta, OK.

Friends may call Friday, November 16, 2012 from 5pm to 9pm at Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home in Monticello, KY. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11 am, also at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home, with Pastor Austin Flowers officiating. Interment at Elk Spring Cemetery will follow the service.
