Gerald "Jerry" W. Koontz was born March 13, 1953, and departed this life, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, reaching the age of 72 years. He was the son of the late Roy Edward and Jewell Francis (Hicks) Koontz.

He married Peggy (Eversole) Koontz on September 3, 1982, and to this union three children were born.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Peggy Koontz; 2 daughters, Ronelia Gruber, and Keesha (Gregory) Ray; 1 son, Charles (Angela) Koontz; 4 grandchildren, Kristen Koontz, Brooklynn (Matthew) McIntosh, Brayden Koontz, and Alexa Gruber; 1 brother, Kevin (Deborah) Koontz; 1 uncle, Gary (Julie) Koontz; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who mourn his passing.

Jerry was a graduate of Wayne County High School and earned two Associate degrees from Somerset Community College. He served in the U.S. Airforce for a brief period. Jerry worked at various mining companies as an electrical foreman until retirement.  He enjoyed reading and staying on top of all the latest technologies. He loved music, traveling, and life in general.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, relative, and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 3, 2025, between 11 am – 1 pm at the Faith Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 3, 2025, at 1 pm at the Faith Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
