Obituary

Freddie "Gene" York was born May 17, 1933 in Wayne County, Kentucky, the son of the late Charles and Lettie (Garner) York. Gene married Treva Bell York, who preceded him in death. To their union two children were born: 1 son, Freddie Ray, who preceded him in death, and Barbara J. York who survives.

Gene was the brother of Junior (Betty) York, who preceded him in death, and the following siblings who survive: Frank (Betty) York, Phillip (Doris) York, and Brenda (Don) Hiten. Gene is also survived by one nephew, Charles York, and two nieces, Kristy (Tim) Reeder and Carol (Brian) Ford. Also surviving are four great nephews and one great niece.

Gene worked as a school bus driver for the Wayne County School system for 36 years. He enjoyed farming and riding horses.

Gene accepted Christ as his Savior and followed that decision with baptism on September 26, 2007 at Green Hill Baptist Church in Monticello, Kentucky.

Gene departed this earthly life on December 5, 2011 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY after a brief illness.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 10 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Decker officiating. Burial will be in Cabell Grove Cemetery.
