Obituary

Some 88 years ago, September 30, 1932, Eva along with her twin brother Earl, were born to Martha Elizabeth Humble Parmley and Miles Monroe (Bill) Parmley in the Parnell Community of Wayne County, Kentucky. Family lore would have it, that Martha was down on her knees digging sweet potatoes the very day these twins were born. This inherited true grit attitude withstood the test of time, starting at an early age for Eva. November, 1932, brought Scarlet fever to the Parmley household, and claimed the life of Earl. Eva was thrown up into the air and caught in her father's arms. It is told, this action prevented Eva's most certain death.

Eva was blessed to have the following siblings, Robert (Velma Jean) Parmley, Johnnie Parmley, James (Eva) Parmley, Mary (Harold) Smith, Glen (Hazel) Parmley, Earl Parmley, Mattie Parmley, Olen (Mary) Parmley, Donald (Teresa) Parmley, Lela (James "Herbie") Daniels, Thelma "Jean" Britt, Betty Parmley, Elmer Parmley, and Roy Parmley. It is with deep  sadness to say, death has claimed her parents and several of her siblings/in-laws, The joy of still having Uncle Don, Aunt Lela, Aunt Jean, Uncle Harold, Aunt Hazel, Aunt Mary, and Aunt Teresa gives us that remain libraries of reference,

As Eva grew into childhood and ultimately into her teenage years, church attendance played a major role in her life. In a revival at Parnell Baptist Church, under God's word as spoken by Bro. Odell Stinson, Eva accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and was later baptized in a nearby neighboring pond. In adulthood, Eva moved her church membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church and attended there for over 50 years.

In the early 1950's the Parmley family moved to the Campbell Place in the Cooper community of Wayne County. During this time, Eva met Denver Ray Burnett in a revival service at New Hope Baptist Church. The courtship was on, and on April 19, 1954 these two were married, on Columbia Avenue at the home of Bro. Arnold Lovett as witnessed by Mary and Harold Smith. To this union, four children were born, 1957, Cecil (Linda Shelton) Burnett, 1959, Joyce (Gary Casada) Burnett, 1961, Bobby Lee Burnett (deceased), and 1964, Calvin "Bruce" (Susan Burke) Burnett.

Joyce & Gary's grandchildren, Adrienne Jones, Memphis Brammer, Lindsey Burks, and Bailey Burks.

Bruce & Susan's children , Joshua Burnett, Tiffany (James) Hancock, Brandon (Tori Gossage) Gehring, Calvin Burnett, and Victoria (Isaac Flores) Burnett.

Bruce & Susan's grandchildren , Scotlynn Evans, Logan Burnett and Hannah Hancock.

In 1982, Eva was introduced to Dorcie Whitt thru her first cousin Ingram Parmley. After eight years of courtship, Eva retired from factory life and on September 08, 1990, this couple was united in marriage at Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the words spoken by Rev. Glen Edwards. Dorcie and Eva both having a competitive spirit enjoyed many hours fishing off a pontoon on the waters of Lake Cumberland. Dorcie's health began to decline and he preceded Eva in death in November 2006.

Eva enjoyed many hours in her retirement years behind a sewing machine, creating custom creations, quilts, clothing, curtains, pillows, tablecloths, men neck ties, aprons, face masks, etc. Eva's neighbor, Emma, once told her, you have "things' no other person has because you created them.

Eva was known by several names, sister, wife, friend, E, Ms Eva, Grannie Burnett, cousin, but for the three of us who knew her best, we called her Mom.  Joyce and Bruce were known to call her the Mayor of Parnell when she left home for whatever reason and then when safely returned, she would respond with a grin, the Mayor of Parnell is home. God called Eva home on December 23, 2020.

For those of us, who remain behind, memories thru her 88 years of life are left to be pondered on, laughed about, enjoyed, tears shared and perhaps a recipe to share. This Eva Parmley Burnett Whitt family asks for continued prayers thru these dark days ahead of adjusting to this earthly life without someone who has always been in our lives.
