ESTIL "RED" CLIFFTON LIFORD, age 78, of the Conley Bottom area of Monticello, KY, passed away at home on April 15th, 2003 after a brief fight with cancer.
He was born in Whitley County in the city of Corbin, KY on May 27th, 1924. He was the son of the late George Liford and Nancy Pennington Liford. In 1947, he married Joan Jennings Liford, who survives him.
Along with his wife Joan, he is survived by one daughter-Karen Liford Reynolds, two grandchildren-Blake Reynolds and Bret Liford, and one sister-Janice Meyers. He was preceded in death by his son-Ethan Bret Liford, one brother-Earl Liford and one sister-Ella Jean Liford.
He entered the United States Navy in May of 1943, via the World War II draft with three weeks left before graduating from high school in Richmond, Indiana with the Class of 1943. While in the Navy, he was a Signalman on the USS Winthrop and advanced to the Naval Air Corps. He received an Honorable Discharge in May of 1946. He also attended Muhlenburg College.
After leaving the Navy, he returned to Richmond, IN, where he was employed at Dille McGuire and Huffman Manufacturing for 30 years. During this time, he also owned a small business, Liford's TV and Appliances, where he worked on TV towers and other related services. In 1976, he moved his family to Zanesville, OH, where he was employed at Malta Manufacturing in McConnellsville, OH as Production Superintendent. He was also employed at Coshocton Steel Ceilings, where he retired in 1989. "Red" was an avid boater, water skier and navigator. He held a Ham radio license and a pilot's license.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, relative and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation: The family will receive friends after 5 PM on Friday, April 18th, 2003 in the chapel of the funeral home.
Funeral Service: The funeral service will be Saturday, April 19th, 2003 at 2 PM in the chapel of the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home.
Interment: Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
