Emily Maedean (Dishman) Crabtree was born April 3, 1936, and departed this life Thursday, May 28, 2026, reaching the age of 90 years. She was the daughter of (the late) Tommy Hayden and Perna Jane (Bridgeman) Dishman.
Emily was baptized at the age of 11 while living in the Old Fall Creek Community. She met the love of her life Haskel “Hack” Lee Crabtree whom she married on November 7, 1953, and to this union four children were born.
Emily taught herself to play the piano and organ having played at church for many years. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Faith Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years. She loved her church family and attended the women’s class with so many of her dear friends. She missed being able to attend church once her health started to fail.
She worked at Dishman’s Personal Care Home for many years. Later on, she worked at the Golden Years Nursing Home where she worked until May of 2016. If you do the math, she was 80 years old… She was older than many of the residents.
One of her favorite things to do was haul her electric piano from home, set it up in the chapel, and play for all those, as she always said, “little old people,” but her favorite thing to do was read the Bible to them. Anyone who knew Emily knows she truly loved the Lord.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (Kathy) Crabtree; two daughters, June Humble (Arthur Reynolds), and Dena (Mike) Guffey; 10 grandchildren, Shannon (Morris) Tzanahua, Beth Crabtree, Joseph Fulton, Brandy (Rodney) Piercy, Jared Crabtree, Cody (Amanda) Humble, Kami (Anthony) Vaughn, Kelly (Roger) Perkins, Michael “Mikey” Guffey, and Nikki (Jeremiah) Prince; 19 great-grandchildren, Torie Morris, Samuel (Alondra) Tzanahua, Liliana Tzanahua (Nick Barber); Keely (Trevor) Richardson; Austin, Lucas, & Jessie Hanna; Brayden Lowe; Emily Humble; August & Avary Perkins; Jackson & Gabbie Humble; Noah & Ivy Vaughn; Blakely Piercy; Devin, Dakota, & Kaleb Crabtree; six great-great grandchildren, Zayden, Aiden, Gracelyn, & Isabel Hanna, Johnny Scott, and Walker Richardson; two sisters, Christine Goff, and Alta Ruth McGinnis; one brother, Phillip (Karen) Dishman; two sisters-in-law, Sue Dishman and Rosie Dishman; along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Haskel “Hack” Lee Crabtree; daughter, Mary Jane (Crabtree) Fulton; 3 brothers, James, Thomas, and Mac Dishman; 1 sister, Mary Hicks Martin; and 1 great-grandchild, Adrien Skye Perkins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 4, 2026, between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
