Elizabeth Fugate Sweet, widow of the late Arlin Sweet, passed away at home at the age of 92 on July 3rd, 2017.
She is survived by ten children, Lora Elam, Mary Barrier (Robert), Kathy Parrigin, Judy Denney, Rayburn Sweet (Blanche), Danny Sweet, Lilly Massengale, Janie Sweet, Paul Sweet (Katrina), and James Sweet all of Monticello; one sister, Martha Cooper of Jamestown, Indiana; 36 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Arlin Sweet; children, Eddy, Johnny, Grady, and Jimmy Sweet, Martha Catron, and Sandra Carrender.
Elizabeth was born on February 27, 1925 to John M. Fugate and Olivie Napier Fugate in Hazard, KY. She traveled by train to Indianapolis, Indiana at a young age to secure employment. She later met and wed her late husband, Arlin Sweet on December 8th, 1945. To this union 15 children were born.
She has been a member of First Christian Church for over 50 years. She loved the Lord, her family and her friends. She had a passion for gardening, growing flowers, being a homemaker and having family and friends all together. Her home was always open!
She was a dedicated, devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend and will be missed by family, friends, and loved ones.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 7, 2017 after 10 am at Monticello First Christian Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Monticello First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to: Monticello First Christian Church Building Fund
