Elizabeth Atkinson was born October 5, 1944 and departed this life Tuesday, August 21, 2012 reaching the age of 67. She was the daughter of the late Elbert and Nora (Sweet) Smith.

She was united in marriage to Lyle Atkinson and to this union 5 children were born.

She is survived by: her husband, Lyle Atkinson of Monticello, KY; 1 son, Darrell Atkinson of Monticello, KY; 4 daughters, Deborah (Shawn) Abbott, Brenda (Bo) Carroll, Connie (Dallas) Piercy, and Cathey Atkinson, all of Monticello, KY; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Corder, Derek Piercy, Katarra Atkinson, Felicia Carroll, Ashley Piercy, Heather Abbott, Alex Piercy, Laurie Abbott, Zachary Piercy, and Matthew Abbott; and 1 great granddaughter, Gracie Elizabeth Corder. She is also survived by: 1 brother, Donald Smith of Indiana; and 1 sister, Helen Catron of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Elbert and Nora Smith, she was preceded in death by: 1 brother, Vernon Smith.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 24, 2012 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Gray and Bro. Donald Smith officiating. Burial will be Buncumb Cemetery.
