Obituary

Effie Hammond was born February 14, 1918 on Raleigh Creek in Gregory, Kentucky to the late Charlie and Cora Jane (Tucker) Morrow. She departed this life Friday, April 14, 2017 at Hicks Golden Years Nursing Home in Monticello, Kentucky reaching the age of 99 years.

She married Zackie Hammond and in 1947 they moved to Spann Hill and bought a farm on Shiloh Road.

She is survived by: four daughters, Iva Upchurch, Lillian Putt, Lois Bell and Evelyn Mays; five grandchildren, Beverly (Scott) Shannon, Karen Smith, Michelle (John) Lucas, Gerald (Julie) Bell, and Joe Mays; and five great grandchildren, Aimee, Shane, Zack, Treighden and Emma. She is also survived by: one brother, Thurston (Reda) Morrow; and sister-in-law, Betty Morrow; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: by her husband, Zackie Hammond; five brothers, Zeke, Dewey, Freeman, Norman, and Marion Morrow.

Early in life she joined Mt. Hermon Church and was baptized in the old creek bed. Later in life she became a member of Spann Hill Baptist Church.

Effie was a loving and kind mother; teaching her children to walk the line. She was a wealth of knowledge even up to her last year of life.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 between 5 – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
