IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edgar Carl
Burnette
January 1, 1940 – January 5, 2019
On Saturday, January 05, 2019, Edgar "Carl" Burnette, surrounded by family, departed this life for his heavenly home. He was born on January 1, 1940 to Loftus and Opal Burnette. Born third of five children, he grew up tending fields, cutting wood, and helping his family carve a life from the stubborn mountains of Parmleysville, Kentucky.
At the young age of fifteen, he met his soul mate, Nellie Louise (Slaven) Burnette. The two were united in marriage on March 03, 1956. They shared a lifetime of love and raised six children together in those same rural hills they both loved.
Carl accepted Christ as his Savior when he was a young man. He was a faithful member of Monticello Baptist Tabernacle.
His happiest moments were surrounded by his loved ones. He spent a lifetime teaching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the value of love and self-sacrifice for family.
He felt his greatest duty was to love his children and provide for his family. Carl worked 47 years at Gamble Brothers, the local saw mill. Many of his most dear friends were found there. He spoke often of the laughs and jokes shared with his friends while working. He took great pride in his work driving a forklift. His value of hard, honest work and family lives on in each of his six children.
Carl was proceeded in death by his father, Loftus Burnette, mother, Opal (Taylor) Burnette, and four siblings, Cleo (Ernestine) Burnett, Clara (Roger) Kidd, Conley (Faye) Burnett, and Cecil (Betty) Burnette and one great-grandson, Trevor Gehring.
Carl is survived by his wife Nellie Louise (Slaven) Burnette and six children, Jean (Toby) Gregory, Carlene (Gary) Slaven, Edward (Peggy) Burnette, Glenn (Phyllis) Burnett, Ronnie Lee Burnette, and Rhonda Renee (Rabion) Decker. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Ashley Hollars, Jeremy (Rebecca) Burnette, Cheryl (Michael) Gehring, Monica (Brad) Wells, Melissa Piercy, Bethany (Tubby) Daniels, Brittany (Dink) Thompson, Emily Decker and Jeremy Burchett, Nicole Burnette and Brian Scott, Rhonda (Josh) Faulkner, Chelsea Bridgeman, and Kresley Burnette. Thirty-two great-grandchildren mourn his passing, McKenna Hollars, Lance Burchett, Brooklyn Burnette, Sadie Wells, Ethan Burnette, Landon Burchett, Lana Turner, Madelynne Piercy, Macy Wells, Paige Burchett, Laura Turner, Desi Burnette, Breanna Burnette, Hagan Doss, Miley Wells, Breelee Thompson, Nakayla Faulkner, Halen Lovett, Nathaniel Scott, Tyrus Pope, Travis Faulkner, Tralee Thompson, Noah Scott, Brincyn Pope, Alex Faulkner, Devon Daniels, Allison Scott, Forrest Thompson, Madalyn Burchett, Amelia Faulkner, Espen Faulkner, and Easton Southwood. Carl will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including his dear cousins and neighbors Junior and Sue Burnett.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 08, 2019 beginning at 5 PM in the chapel of Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 09, 2019 at 11 AM at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Obie Dobbs Cemetery.
