Obituary

Donald Pyles was one of eight children born to the late Charlie and Bertha (Goodman) Pyles. He was born into this life on Thursday, January 13, 1949 in the Sandy Valley Community of Wayne County, Kentucky. He went home to be with his Lord on Friday morning, September 18, 2015 in Somerset, having reached the age of 66 years.

He is survived by: his wife of 32 years, Karen (Mullins) Pyles; two sons, Donald "Kerry" Pyles and Jordan Pyles; two daughter, Lana McGinnis (husband Jason) and Gina Brumley ( fiancé Rodney Abbott); five grandchildren, Nicole Williams, Joshua McGinnis, Solomon Pyles, Brittany Acton, and Gracie Brumley; and two great grandchildren, Asia Routt and Bristol Acton. He is also survived by: two brothers, Homer and Conley Pyles; and two sisters, Evelyn Stinson and Ruth Castle; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Charlie and Bertha Pyles, he was preceded in death by: one brother, Hobart Pyles; and two sisters, Betty Conn and Kathy Piercy.

Donald was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a caring grandfather. He was a devout Christian who was a member of the Ellers Chapel Methodist Church and had attended services at the First Baptist Church of Somerset for the last 32 years. He loved his music and was a supporter of the church music department.

He was a graduate of Wayne County High School and also furthered his education by attending the Somerset Vocational School. He faithfully served his country in the Army and retired from the Kentucky National Guard. In recent years, he spent a great deal of his time volunteering with the American Legion, Post #38 of Somerset providing military honors for deceased veterans.

Donald was also a corvette enthusiast. He was a proud supporter and member of the Lake Cumberland Corvette Club.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 21, 2015 after 5 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 12 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 2:30 pm in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.

Military Honors will be performed by the American Legion of Somerset, Post#38.
