Danny Kay Hughes, age 67, passed away on October 1, 2019.  He was born December 10, 1951, the son of Haskell Hughes and Edna (Harris) Hughes of the Murl Community in Wayne County, KY.  On February 25, 1974, he married his wife of 45 years, Betty (Thurman) Hughes.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents and one brother who died in infancy, Roger Lee Hughes.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, 3 sons: Danny Hughes, Jr. (Carolyn) of Monticello, KY, Steven Hughes (Ann Margaret) of Monticello, KY, and Jerry Hughes of Lexington, KY.  He is also survived by one brother, Jackie Hughes of Monticello, KY; and 3 grandchildren:  Bethany, Lauren and Madison, along with many other friends and relatives who mourn his passing.

Danny was a farmer and life-long resident of the Murl Community of Wayne County and a member of Wayne County High School Class of 1969.  He accepted Christ as his Savior at age 19 and joined the Old Charity Baptist Church. On January 25, 1975, he was ordained to preach the gospel.  Danny had preached in many Baptist churches around Wayne, McCreary, and Clinton Counties, as well as Tennessee, until illness prevented his efforts.  He was passionate about sharing the gospel of his Lord Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 4, 2019 between 5 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Old Charity Cemetery.
