On January 6, 2107 Conley Pyles passed away at the Wayne County Hospital after a long illness. He was 75 years of age. He was born August 21, 1941 in the community of Sandy Valley in Wayne County to Charley and Bertha Goodman Pyles.

He was married for 53 years to Gloria (Rena) Cox Pyles who survives. Other survivors include: three sons, Tim (wife Telene), Tom, and Troy (wife Amanda); five grandchildren, TaShea, Temisha, Jacob, Treyton, and Tyler. These five grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Other survivors include his two sisters, Evelyn Stinson and Ruth Castle as well as several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, three brothers, Hobart, Homer, and Donald, and two sisters, Betty Conn and Kathy Piercy precede him in death.

Conley was a member of Eller's Chapel Methodist Church which he attended as long as his health permitted him to do so.

He attended school at Sand Valley and Wayne County High School.

Conley liked old vehicles and held many of a heated discussion about them with his brothers, Homer and Donald.

In the 1960's & 70's he participated in the parades which were held in Monticello on Sunday evenings.

During his teens, he worked at several filling stations which were owned by Johnny Clines, Willard Worley, Ralph Brown, and Frank Kennedy. Later he and his brother, Donald, opened a Sinclair Station in Monticello. He also worked at Belden's and as a carpenter for Gene Dunndington.

He was a great fan of sports….basketball and football, in which his sons played.

Conley will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2017 after 5pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 1pm in the chapel of the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
