Claude Phipps, Jr. was born September 15, 1936 and departed this life Monday, October 10, 2016 reaching the age of 80 years. He was the son of the late Claude Phipps and Grace (Ramsey) Russell.

He is survived by: his wife, Mildred (Guffey) Phipps; one sons, Ralph (Rosemary) Phipps; two daughters, Elissa Phipps and Lenora (Wes) DeHay; four grandchildren, Jason Phipps, Heather Piercy, Claudia DeHay and Presley DeHay; and five great grandchildren, Destiny Carter, Cody Phipps, Jacob Piercy, Hailey Piercy and Jordan Piercy. He is also survived by: two brothers, Johnny and Guy Russell; and four sisters, Mable Cross, Georgia Duncan, Gloria Allred, and Gay York; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one son, Steve Phipps; and two brothers, Garry Russell and Grant Russell.

He was a deacon at Rector's Flat and was avid fisherman.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 after 5 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
