Charles Nixon McVey was born April 17, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Henry Samuel McVey and Dolly (Baldridge) McVey. Charles is survived by 1 brother Herbert (Shirley) McVey and 1 sister, Dianna McVey (Tom) Mosier. His brother, William "Bill" and his wife, Helen McVey preceded him in death.
He married Mary Ann Harris on November 30, 1985. Mary Ann preceded him in death on March 30, 2012. Upon his marriage he became step-father to Michael Harris whom preceded him in death and Victoria Lynn Harris Scott who survives him. Charles has 2 step-grandsons, Dakota Scott and Ryan Harris; and a step-granddaughter, Chelsey Scott.
Charles was uncle to: Jeffrey McVey, Gene McVey, Denise Omara, Andrew Mosier, Jennifer Mosier, and Derick Spurance. He was also honorary uncle to: Lisa Fragassi, Julie Horton, Becky Bradford, Ray Horton, Richard Horton, Tabitha Walker, and Kevin Horton.
Charles lived in Loveland, Ohio for most of his life and attended Goshen Local School graduating in 1964.
On October 14, 1965 Charles was drafted into the Army and served with the 196th Light Infantry and 25th Division. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Charles was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of Clermont County, OH along with the DAV Chapter 105 of Monticello, KY.
Charles was an avid bike rider and rode many miles with all of his friends and family in Ohio and Kentucky. The bike came out as soon as winter was over and only went back in when the snow started.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 10th from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home and Friday, May 11th from 9:30 am – 10:30 am at Steubenville Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Steubenville Baptist Church with Bro. Art Wiggins, Bro. Gene McVey, and Bro. Phillip Drake officiating. Burial will be in Mill Spring National Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.
