Cecil Guffey was born September 15, 1933, and entered into eternal rest on September 20, 2024, reaching the age of 91. He was the son of the late Shelby Loren and Myrtie (Stevens) Guffey.
On November 18, 1952, he married the love of his life, Stella Mae Hicks who survives. They were married for 71 years and 10 months at the time of his passing. To this union, twin girls were born, Vicki and Nicki.
In addition to his wife, Stella, he leaves behind to celebrate his life, his daughter and son-in-law, Nicki and Jimmie Dishman; a grandson and his wife, Brian and Allison Dishman; a granddaughter and her husband Rebecca and Jerrod Alley; great grandchildren, William and Maecey Alley and Cayleb, Aidan, and Christian Rice; son-in-law, Dale Bell; Liffered McGinnis whom he farmed with for many years, as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Vicki Guffey Bell; siblings, Edith Franklin, Golda Peavie, Allene Cooper, Jesse Guffey, James Guffey, Nadine Bertram, Neva Rigney, and Nina Peercy.
He was saved at an early age and became a member of the Gap Creek Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years before moving his membership to Monticello First Baptist Church.
Cecil was a life-long farmer and was known for the delicious tomatoes he grew. He was a charter board member of Cumberland Farm Products Association, serving many terms on the board of directors.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024, at 11am. Burial will follow in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Gideons Memorial Bible Plan or Wayne County FFA.
