Carl Rankin Lair, age 95, was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, on March 28, 1926, and passed away on September 16, 2021, at The Neighborhood of Somerset.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Karla Vanover, and her husband, Bill Vanover. He is predeceased by his wife, Helen Polson Lair; his father, Wilbur Lair; his mother, Lizzie Lair; his brother, Wallace Lair; his sister, Dean Lair.

He was a proud disabled veteran of WW11 and a long-serving postmaster of Monticello Post Office.

He had an encyclopedic knowledge of old country music and loved Western novels.

Following retirement in 1987, he lived in other places, but his heart always belonged to Wayne County.

He will forever be remembered by family and friends for his kindness and unconditional love.

Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life in a graveside service on Monday, September 20, 2:00 p.m., at Elk Springs Cemetery.
