Calvin D. Nissley, Sr. 91 of Oakland, MD, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 13, 2012. He was born October 29, 1920; the son of the late David Leroy and Emma (Schrock) Nissley. In his youth he was baptized upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ and was presently a member of the Gortner Amish Church. On November 6, 1941 he was married to Lena A. (Miller) of Dover, DE; who preceded him in death on June 3, 1992. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters, 1 son-in-law, Chris Graber, 1 daughter-in-law, Mary (Yoder) Nissley and 2 great grandchildren.
Surviving are 5 sons, Neal, married to Katie (Hershberger) of Monticello, KY with whom he resided and was lovingly cared for the last 6 months of his life, Leroy, married to Barbara (Miller) of Kizers, PA; Vernon of Jaynesville, CA, Calvin, Jr. married to Mary (Kauffman) of Oakland, MD, John of the home; 2 daughters, Lydia of Mt. Crawford, VA and Ruth of Harrisonburg, VA; 24 grandchildren; and 86 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday May 14th from 7 – 9 pm at Pleasant Ridge Mennonite Church in Monticello, KY.
The family will receive friends at the Gortner Amish Church on Tuesday, May 15th from 6 – 9 pm and Wednesday, May 16th from 1 – 3 pm and 6 – 8 pm. Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 17th with Bishop Alvin Beach officiating. Interment will follow in the Slaubaugh Cemetery.
