Bro. Bobby Guffey passed away January 29, 2004. He was born in Harlan Co. to the late Charlie H. and Roxie Guffey. He is survived by his wife, Alice, his children, Barry Lynn Guffey, Janice Lee Pyles, Alice Ann Oaks, his step children, Leanne Casada, Tessy Cook, and Betsy Clark who preceded him in death.
He also leaves a brother, Charlie H. Guffey, Jr., sisters, Wilma Jean Crabtree and Betty Lou Bybee, one half-sister, Lillian Coffman, 12 grandchildren, and one great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bobby worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver but his one true vocation was the ministry. He was instrumental in the donation of land with his family in the creation of Mountain View Baptist Camp.
He was saved September 18, 1969 and answered his call to preach December 28, 1969. His first sermon was at Rector's Flat Baptist Church on January 4, 1969.
May 16th held a special meaning for him since he was born on that date, ordained into the ministry, and married Alice.
He will be missed by the congregation of Calvary Baptist Fellowship where he was pastor as well as many, many friends.
Visitation: Friday, January 30 after 5 PM in the funeral home chapel.
Funeral Service: Saturday, January 31 at 1 PM at the Immanuel Baptist Church
Interment: Elk Spring Cemetery
