Obituary

Betty Sue Dalton York was born November 13, 1947 to Haskel R. and Marjorie Daffron Dalton in Hall Valley, KY.  She departed this life on Sunday, December 19, 2021 reaching the age of 74 years.  She grew up on their farm with her two brothers and was proud of her heritage.

Upon graduation from high school and college she was ready to begin her career as a teacher.  On June 14, 1968 she became the wife of Sherman York of Albany, KY.  "Miss Betty" spent 42 years in the Wayne County School System, 30 years in the classroom and 12 years as a Writing Resource Specialist.  She was a skilled writer, an extremely competent teacher who left an indelible imprint on the children of Wayne County. With her calm demeanor and understanding, her influence will remain.  Another great passion was her family and her love for beautiful things such as quilts, antiques and anything artistic and creative.

Survivors in her family include her husband of 53 years, brothers, Walter Dee Dalton (Clorenda), Timothy Rankin Dalton (Pam) niece, Rachel (Jason) Dalton, nephew, Chip (Chelsea) Dalton.  A very special person to both Betty Sue and Sherman is Molly (Nate) Clark, daughter of Tim and Pam.  She has brought endless love and joy that all have shared creating a wonderful relationship.

The character of the life Betty Sue lived might be summed up in these words: sincere, earnest, loyal, industrious, appreciative and self-sacrificing.  She was a lady with high standards, complete integrity never avoiding a responsibility, great intellect and a huge heart.  She was the epitome of beautiful simplicity.  She came in beauty and left the same way.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 between 10 am – 12:30 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be private for family only. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
