Obituary

Betty Brown Wright: beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and lifelong resident of Monticello and Wayne County, Kentucky passed away peacefully on December 5, 2021, at The Neighborhood in Somerset at the age of 90.  She was born in Touristville, Kentucky to Luid Estill and Laura Patrick Dunagan Brown on November 9, 1931. On September 10, 1952, she married Gene Sheridan "Cedar" Wright at the Mill Springs Christian Church; a love affair that would last over 66 years.  They had two sons:  Louie Lee (LaNette), and B.G. (Bradley); and three grandsons:  Sheridan (Mary) Wright, Mylan (Jill) Wright, and Louie L. (Leann) Wright; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Betty was a very gifted cook, dedicated to service, but above all, she was wholeheartedly devoted to her family and friends.  Betty was known as a very caring person, always helping those in need and less fortunate.  In such, she was continually involved in church, volunteering, as well as community projects and activities.  Betty worked at the Wayne County Public Library, delivering books to readers throughout the county.  She also owned her own catering business and worked with her husband, Cedar at Wright & Wright Machinery Company in Monticello.

Because of her work at the library, Betty knew Wayne County and its people, who was related to whom, where they lived and worked, and much about their general well-being.  Upon retirement, she dedicated her time to volunteering with the Wayne County Hospital Volunteers; an organization for which she served over 20 years. After volunteering, her main focus was to care for Cedar until his death and later succumbing to her own declining health. She was originally a member of the Mill Springs Church prior to marrying, then a member at the First Christian Church in Monticello for 70 years.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived one sister, Mary Ruth Weaver (G.C. Jr.) of Somerset, one brother, Robert LaFayette "Bobby" (Shirley) Brown of Monticello, and many nieces and nephews who she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by husband, her parents, a sister, Kathleen (Kenneth) Campbell; a brother, Emery Estill (Margaret) Brown.

Betty's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at The Neighborhood for the loving care, hugs, and kisses provided to her in her time of need, as well as the many additional caretakers for Betty and Gene.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 11 th at the First Christian Church in Monticello from 10:00am to 1:00pm; at which time the funeral service will begin.  Pastor Joe Tipton - Betty's minister - will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute in Betty's memory may do so to the First Christian Church building fund (at the link found below) or to the Wayne County Hospital Volunteers (at the address found below).
