Betty D. York was born July 12, 1941, and departed this life Wednesday, September 8, 2021, reaching the age of 80 years. She was the daughter of the late Vernon and Marie (Morrow) Dodson.
She is survived by: her husband, Frank York; 2 daughters, Carol (Brian) Ford and Kristy (Tim) Reeder; 3 sisters, Ada Jean Warinner, Nancy Abbott, and Martha Tucker; 3 grandchildren, Nikolas Reeder, Jax Reeder, and Maverick Ford; along with a host of family and friends who mourns her passing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 infant son, Gary Wayne York; 1 sister, Gladys Grever; and 3 brothers, Virgil Earl Dodson, Arnold Albert Dodson, and Vernon Dodson.
Betty worked for 35 years as a school teacher for the Wayne County School System as well as, a substitute teacher for 15 years. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She was saved at a young age and was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church for many years.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, relative, and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 5 until 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 2 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Spann Hill Cemetery.
