Bertha Marie Upchurch West was born November 18, 1924 and departed this life Thursday, September 20, 2012 reaching the age of 87. She was the daughter of the late Samp and Pearl (Morgan) Woods.

She was united in marriage to Prentis Upchurch and to this union 4 children were born.

She is survived by: 1 son, Howard Upchurch; 3 daughters, Collene Bertram, Ellen Jane Davis, and Kathleen Craig; 2 step sons, Jimmy and Walter West; 1 step daughter, Janet Thompson; 25 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Samp and Pearl Woods, she was preceded in death by: her 1st husband, Prentis Upchurch; her 2nd husband, Henry West; 3 brothers, Arthur Woods, Rondle and Ray Carter; and 2 sisters, Christine Griffin and Clara Hale.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home with Bro. Byron Creech and Bro. Seth Denney officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery.
