Obituary

The significance of her life can be measured in the abundance of people who felt safer, happier and more deeply cared for because she was here.

Barbara Sue (Dean) Ramsey, 78, departed this life to her eternal heavenly home on July 23, 2026. She was born April 8, 1948, to the late Whitt and Neva (Perkins) Dean. She spent 55 happy years married to the love of her life, the late Tommy Joe Ramsey, and to this union three children were born.

She is survived, sorrowfully mourned and joyously celebrated by: one son, Darin Ramsey (Rusty Handlon); two daughters, Tonya Ramsey Abeln (Kris) and Crystal Ramsey; and two grandchildren, Luke and Todd Abeln. She is also survived by: three sisters, Ann Guffey, Bonnie Riley and Karen Southwood; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by: six brothers, Randall, David, Roger, Donald, Freddie, and Danny Dean; and two sisters, Donna Parmley and Imogene Keeton.

Barbara was a diligent woman of God, a devoted wife and mother, and a tireless caretaker whose life’s deeply consequential work was loving and serving the people around her, offering her time, loyalty and tenderness wherever they were needed. She found joy in laughter, loved telling jokes and never missed an opportunity to dance, bringing lightheartedness and warmth to even the simplest moments. Over the last decade, she delighted in her most treasured title, “Nana,” doting on her grandsons and surrounding them with the kind of love that becomes part of a child forever. The significance of her life can be measured in the abundance of people who felt safer, happier and more deeply cared for because she was here. She was a dedicated wife to Tommy and missed him desperately during the six months they were apart. Her family takes great comfort in knowing that they are together again, reunited in the presence of the God they both faithfully sought and served.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to be loved by her.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 30 between 5 pm – 8 pm and Friday, July 31 beginning at 11 am in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, at 1 pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Davis Chapel Cemetery.
