Obituary

Barbara Elaine Scoville Harper, 205 Harper Drive, Monticello, died at her home on Wednesday morning, August 3.

Born in London,KY, on November 24, 1934, she was the daughter of Chester N. Scoville and Elgene Scoville Gross. Barbara attended Sacred Heart Academy, Cullman, AL, and Eastern Kentucky University. On June 25, 1955, she married Joe Wells Harper, Sr., also of London, and they moved to Monticello in 1957. Barbara worked for thirty years for the State as a social worker, and, after retiring, as a volunteer with the Wayne County Hospital, Hospice of Lake Cumberland, and Red Cross disaster relief. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Monticello.

Barbara is survived by daughter Becki and husband Ron Ables (Paron, AK), son Joe Harper, Jr., and wife Becky (Somerset), and daughter Letitia and husband Chris Ducas (Lexington). Also surviving are a brother Warren Scoville (London) and three sisters, Billie Ray Killen (Fulton, MO), Sophie Pope (Frankfort), Margaret Scoville Nottingham (Charlotte, NC). Grandchildren include Gabriel, Salina, Amanda, Rob, Wells, Ike, and Pierce.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday from 5 til 8 pm at the Marvin Hicks Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life on Saturday at 11:00 am at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the Wayne County Hospital Volunteers.
