The Godmother of Recovery
Born March 26th, 1961, she departed this life on January 10th at Somerset Regional Hospital.
Affectionately known as Barb or Mamma D. Barbara served many roles on this earth. None of which brought her more joy than the title of Mother and Grandmother.
While many knew her from Sonic or her tanning salon, Time 2 Tan. It was her work in Recovery that would prove to be her life's mission.
Upon release from rehab Dec 19th, 2005, she was tasked with attending 100 AA or NA meetings in 100 days. At the time Wayne Co NA/AA met once a month, sometimes.
She attended meetings in 5 different counties to complete the task. Along that journey she found her passion and, in the years, to come she became a cornerstone of the Monticello program. Holding multiple service positions. Many times, holding multiple roles to keep the program alive.
She poured tirelessly into others whether it was her children, grandchildren, her brothers, her employees and customers at Sonic. Her clients at the tanning salon or the young women at the rehab she returned to every year bringing gifts and sharing her message of hope. Barbara was a giver and that continued even in death as an organ donor.
She made recovery her priority and thousands of lives have been impacted by her legacy. Through her work along with the several other dedicated members of the program, sobriety in Monticello is thriving.
She made a difference in her community and that's something we should all strive to do.
