Obituary

Attlean Phillips Kennedy, age 95, was born in the Freedom Community of Wayne County, January 1, 1929, the daughter of Vina Foster Phillips and Claude Ewell Phillips.  She departed this life, Friday, June 21st, 2024, after a short illness.

On November 9th, 1953, she united in marriage with her husband, Thomas Lee Kennedy.  They located to the Cabell Community where they farmed and raised four children, David Lee (Amy), Paul Douglas, John Wayne (Jean), and Margie Lynn Bell (Ben).  In addition to her children she is also survived by: six grandchildren, Erin Marie Price (Te'Koa), Allison Lee Kennedy, Cheyanne Louisa Kennedy, Rebekah MacKenzie Bell (Shelby), Parker Thomas Bell (Kitana), and Thomas Russell Kennedy;  and 5 great grandchildren, Wyatt Stinson, Lylia Moirayne Bell, Elynore Gladys Bell, Avery McCutchen, and Locklyn Rand Bell.

Attlean was the eldest of thirteen children:  Dovie C. Phillips (d. 2015), Hobert Phillips (d. 1931), Obie Ewell Phillips (d. 2018), Phyllis Foster Martin (d. 2017), Evalee Branscum of Sydney, Ohio, Raymond Phillilps of Sydney, Ohio, Samuel Levi Phillips (d. 2023), Dewey Phillips (d. 2007), Helen Coffey (d. 2024), Danny Phillips (Estelle), Pleaz Phillips, and Allen Phillips (d. 1988).

Attlean leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors, and friends who mourn her passing.

As a young lady, Attlean accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a lifetime member of the Freedom Baptist Church.  She was a housewife, a wonderful mother to her children, and grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 28th, 2024, from 11am-1pm  in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Friday, June 28th, 2024, at 1pm at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Koger Ramsey officiating.  Burial will be in the Cabell Cemetery.
