Alta Mae Lewis was born February 20, 1939 and departed this life Wednesday, February 16, 2011 reaching the age of 71. She was the daughter of the late Rector and Beulah Burnett.

She was united in marriage to Milford Lewis and to this union 2 children were born.

She is survived by: her husband, Milford Lewis of Monticello, KY; 2 sons, John (Becky) Lewis and Larry (Jan) Lewis both of Monticello, KY; and 1 grandson, Travis Lewis of Monticello, KY. She is also survived by: 2 brothers, David Burnett of Somerset, KY and Junior Burnett of Monticello, KY; 7 sisters, Mary Kidd, Vela Burnett, Betty Decker, Nancy Haynes, Leta Piercy, Dovie Decker, and Martha Neal all of Monticello, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Rector and Beulah Burnett, she was preceded in death by: 1 granddaughter, Olivia Erin Lewis; 1 brother, Johnny Burnett; and 1 sister, Imogene Creechlow.

Alta enjoyed gardening and farming and was often seen at her family's side on the farm. She was a wonderful cook and loved preparing meals for her family – whom she loved dearly. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at the young age of 13 and was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Henry Stringer and Bro. Curtis Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to: New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund
