Alan Howard Brake, a true original and proud son, took his final road trip to glory on April 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy larger than life- and just as colorful.

Alan was a lover of life, a trucker who could outdrive, out-talk, and out-charm just about anyone, and a certified tough guy in the best way possible- the kind of man who could fix a broken heart and a bad day before breakfast. He liked his coffee black, his trucks loud, bikes fast, and his faith strong. A God-fearing man, Alan was a faithful member of Greenhill Baptist Church.

He was born to Howard and Wilodean Brake, who clearly knew they had something special from day one, the big brother of Kim Brake, Sr. Alan carried their lessons of hard work, kindness, and a little bit of mischief through every mile of his life.

Alan was the devoted husband to his soulmate, the late Carol Sue Brake. Their love was the only love you read about- stubborn, sweet, and everlasting. He was a proud father to three children, Sherri, Justin, and Misty, each of whom is blessed with a little bit of his wit, grit, and his heart of gold.

Alan never met a stranger- just friends he hadn't swapped stories with yet. Whether behind the wheel of a semi or standing under the Sunday sun of a family cookout, Alan lived full throttle with a smile that could fill a room and a spirit that could lift a town.

He taught us all that it is okay to be tough as nails, as long as you keep your heart wide open. Heaven just surely got a little louder, a lot livelier, and a whole lot more fun.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28, 2025, between 5 pm – 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11 am at the Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
